RADIATION the risk

so germany has been doing rediation for 15yr.
and it's now being done here in America.
Are there any studies about the cancer risk?

any time radiation is used, there is some risk...
I'm not looking for anecdotal views.
(I'm trying to get my M.D. to insurance co./primary care Doc
to send me to Kansas...

they wanted more info.

Re: RADIATION the risk

Hi Australia Calling,
Have you seen the literature 'Estimate of risk of cancer caused by radiation therapy of Morbus Dupuytren'
Click on left margin 'Radiation therapy- side effects. 'Also- Under 'literature 'a copy of Clinical Investigation by Prof Seegenschmiedt -Germany is also available on request by contacting the Society. This outlines the procedure using low dose radiotherapy in the treatment M.D.. Remember the dose of radiotherapy is low dose, not that used in the treatment of cancer. At the immediate top of the forum - click on "SEARCH" type in eg. Radiotherapy risk. There are two options- check them out -lots of info.. Hope this helps.

Re: RADIATION the risk

As Newman says, there is info on this site and other info about radiotherapy for benign disease to be found by general internet search. Radiation is a strong treatment with a negligible risk but possible tremendous benefit in the treatment of benign disease. I'm sure that any oncologist should be able point you to some useful studies with regards to the use of radiotherapy.

On the treatment generally though (which I've had myself), I always struggled with the term low dose because 30Gy is quite a high dose and is close to some of the lower doses used to treat some cancers. However, the treatment is very localised (even full palm which I had), does not penetrate deeply into the body and, perhaps most importantly, treatment is away from sensitive major organs.

I'm a month from the end of my treatment and go back to Poole in couple of weeks for a check up and apart from a little dryness here and there it's looking good

Cambidgeshire, UK.
