Today is the Day.....

Feb. 1. I'm scheduled to receive my injection this afternoon. However, living in the great Northeast, we are expecting a blizzard tomorrow, and it's been snowing like crazy since the middle of the night, making the roads kind of dangerous even now. I've got a 45 minute drive (in clear weather) ahead of me. I have a call in to the doctor's office wondering what the implications might be if I can't get back tomorrow for the breaking of the cord. I wonder if a day later makes a difference. So far no reply. So, I guess I'm good to go! Will keep everyone apprised of how it goes day by day......

Feb. 2 and it did not happen.....Living in the great Northeast made the roads yesterday horrible with a worse forecast for today. So this has been postponed for a week. I will report once I have something to report.

Feb. 8

Just back from having the injection. Hand is wrapped. It was quite uncomfortable when the needle was moved and depressed, but hey, it took under a moment. Told I could ice it. I've a prescription for pain killers which I hope not to have to take. I plan on a shot of scotch instead,
Will take it easy until I return tomorrow. The doctor told me I'd be getting a shot or two of lidocaine prior to the manipulation. Typing one-handed is a bit difficult......

Thanks again to everyone who provided input...at least I felt like I had some background knowledge when I walked in.

More tomorrow.

Re: Today is the Day.....

Thanks for sharing. Is it too late for a before and after photo?

Hope it's not too painful and tomorrow goes well.

Re: Today is the Day.....

I actually did take a picture a few days ago. I will try to upload it when I have better use of
my hands. Right now there is nothing to see as the hand is wrapped. After the manipulation I'll take another picture.

Thanks for the good wishes.

Re: Today is the Day.....

Speedy recovery! Keep us posted on your progress. I am going for my 4 week checkup (after the injection/manipulation) on Friday. I'm still slightly black and blue and swollen, but basically feeling good. Improvement in contracture is pronounced. Splinting at night.

Re: Today is the Day.....

Thanks for the good wishes. I just returned from the manipulation. The first adjustment sounded like paper tearing. Doc could force a straightening, but a lot of tissue in the lower part of the finger is hindering movement. I'm splinted now for 2 days. Then I can take it off for washing and stretching exercises. Wants it on as much as possible, but definitely from late afternoon on. I return on the 28th. I may need another shot, but we'll see how it goes. Lidocaine still keeping me omfortable...will report back and let all know how I am progressing.

[b]FIRST DAY POST MANIPULATION

Thanks to some TylenolPM, I actually had an OK night. This morning I've taken one Advil. Discomfort is not bothersome at all, and I can type with 9 fingers now, which is far better than what I've managed thus far. No driving until tomorrow when I can unwrap and start the stretching exercises. The only thing that is annoying is that the edge of the splint hits right where the injection was given two days ago, and it's pretty tender. I work part time and I've got a ride picking me up, so I will go in. I'm neve one to sit around, so getting right back to the normal routine is good for me.

Re: Today is the Day.....

This is sounding very similar to my experience with surgery. I took Tylenol the first couple days and that was it. I had one ten minute look with surgeon pre-surgery. Then the surgery. Then one 10 minute post -surgery two weeks later to take stitches out. Then I had two sessions of PT.

SECOND DAY POST MANIPULATION

I just unsplinted my finger for the first time. Looking at my hand with the palm up, other than the bruising and swelling, my finger looks pretty darn good. However, when I flip it over, the knuckle on the affected finger looks like a ski slope--no change in that at all. Does anyone know what that is about? The worst bruising is where the injection went in, and it doesn't help that the splint lies right on it. I can only leave the splint off for a little while the next few days, but it sure felt good to get into the shower, My job is to stretch the finger back as far as I can. So far, that doesn't seem too bad either.
