Re: vegan diet for dupuytrens
There are some comments on diets on the bottom of http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr...s_research.html. The essence is, while a wide variety of diets has been reported to have a good effect, there is no real evidence for any of those diets beyond very few personal stories.

Re: vegan diet for dupuytrens
I agree with you, diet does not cause dups. Although no one in my family has presented with dups yet, I think its pretty conclusive that it is an autosomal dominant condition.
I know that this is a long shot. A very long shot. I am going by nothing but a handful of journal articles and some anecdotal evidence. I am self-aware enough to recognise that this is more about my own psychological need for control over this. I am not happy to sit around, passively waiting for things to get worse. I have no delusion I will be cured.
Right now this is at the forefront of my mind. I check my hands on a very regular basis for new nodules - then out of the blue I notice not only a nodule, but a highly visible cord on the PIP joint of my right ringfinger. My left hand took over a year between a nodule and developing a cord. The swift progression of the dups in my right hand scares me. Have I mentioned I am 25 years old?
I dont expect a whole heap of support for such an untried and untested endeavour. Veganism is nutritionally sound, ethical and green way to live. Yes, the catalyst for me starting this is the dups, but I am not losing anything by trying.

Re: vegan diet for dupuytrens
I've been a vegetarian for over 30 years but am not a vegan. If there was proof that milk or eggs caused Dupuytren's I would not partake but since there isn't, I feel that I need the nutrition they provide.

Re: vegan diet for dupuytrens
Why worry about the diet? Just go down and visit Dr. Eaton in Florida and get it fixed with a needle aponeurotomy. Takes a half an hour, no pain, no recovery time, easier than getting your teeth cleaned. I have full range of motion. His rates two weeks ago were $300 for the consultation, $600 per finger. Best money I ever spent, and the best experience with the medical profession.

Re: vegan diet for dupuytrens
Gecko,
I, too, was fixated on the Dupuytren's in my hand until I had RT. So far, RT has stopped the progression and I do not think about Dups several times daily like I used to. With the risk of cancer caused by RT at <1%, each person has to make his/her own decision about it. I was ready to do something to stop it, and a risk I was/am willing to take. If you decide to try radiation, the radiation therapist will likely discuss the risks and your age.
My left hand shows active Dupuytren's Disease. I have a cord beginning to form starting at the base of my thumb and going out into the palm but no contracture yet. I feel sure the contracture is ready to present itself and I plan to have an evaluation about RT in January. We'll see if Dr. T recommends that I wait or not. I don't have nodules forming much so far. It is a similar pattern that was in my right hand.
Good luck!
