Verapamil w/ lido vs. Aspercreme w/lido for painful cords

Hello everyone,

Have not posted in long time. Cords continue in both hands and some contracture in both hands worse in R thumb. Have in both thumbs and several fingers. Recently found out my younger brother also has DD. I am a little bit ambidextrous but am practicing using L hand even more. Of course typing is the worse, so have to limit.
Visited a foot specialist and one of the things he wanted me to do was start Aspercreme for DD and LD. He was unfamiliar with Verapamil/lido compound.
Up until recently it has been helping. But after holding my iphone for long conversation the R thumb cord flared and has only gotten a bit better now and then. Mostly everyday it is very painful.
I am not sure but having Fibromyalgia may be making my pain worse. I take turmeric, Omerga 3 bromelain, and tylenol for pain.
I am hesitant to switch to Aspercreme and wondered if anyone with painful cords has tried?

Thank you,
Heron2

I have heard of people using Aspercreme and Salon Pas to help with local pain symptoms. Not a treatment though.

Hi Spanish Buddha,

Thank you for your response.

Well as far as treatment goes it seems the highest percentage of people who seek treatment of any kind have unfavorable results. Unless something new comes along it seems the Disease does not take to being manipulated and comes back with a fury.

If you can direct me to a large percentage of successful treatment I would be thrilled. Meantime I will have to prepare less food, drive less etc.

I hope research would continue and concentrate on genes and the immune system and collagen production.

RT seems to help most people with DD or LD if done when there are progressive symptoms. After that it’s minimal interventions that avoid full surgery. For LD cryosurgery may be helpful. There are less established options in the form of trials, massage and enzyme injections that we can’t really recommend outright (no evidence base), but people investigate and talk about on these forums, and some with apparently good results. The research goes on, and the IDS gives an annual rewards. Also the DF now the DRG is involved, see https://dupuytrens.org
