My thumbs (near the base only) hurt and are very painful for a moment when I move them a certain way, quite painful for a quick moment then I have to move them quickly back into a better position, and the pain subsides, until I inadvertantly use them again in the wrong way again in a certain position........this is not normal, and coincedently coincided with the dupuytrens in my hands getting worse over the past several months. Never had a problem with my thumbs before.

Does this mean I have dupuytrens in my thumbs too, though I don't seem to have any cords or nodules there!

It is very disconcerting!!!

I have painful DD in most fingers and in the thumb webbing and I too have severe pain in the CMC thumb joints of both hands. It has been diagnosed by xray and symptoms to be arthritis. It has been getting worse over the past 5 years and makes the DD more difficult to cope with for sure. I now wear a wonderful brace, fitted for me by a hand therapist, made by Cool Comfort. You can buy it online through Amazon. I'm going to try a corizone shot on Wednesday. The condition can be easily fixed by surgery but as usual, the recovery is long and there is a risk of triggering the DD.
