contracture in hands and feet

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this story but i would like some input, I am 36 years old I first got a small nodule in my foot when I was 15, surgically removed at 17, another removed at 19, 20, and a fairly major attempt(really big scar) at removing the mass at 22, none of this worked and I decided the surguries were just giving me scars not a cure. I have a fairly large mass in my foot and now have the condition in my hand. I had a contracture surgically removed from my little finger 2 years ago and it has now developed in my middle finger. I have read this is a man's disorder and usually doesn't occur untill later in life.. I am a woman and I have had this since I was a young girl..

Re: contracture in hands and feet

Sorry to hear about your condition. There are many on here with problems associated with this disease, so your in the right place. I know it is good just to get things off your chest and vent a little. It is a very troubling disease for some because everyone is different and treatments can vary from dr. to dr. I happen to be a male and I have dupuytren's in both hands but not feet. Mine started when i was 24 and im now 34. If your looking for different treatment options there many on here that are trying radiation, needle aponevrotomy, and a new enzyme called collegenase. They may be able to shine some more light on these treatments, also in the left column under home is an explantion of these treatments. Wish you well!

Re: contracture in hands and feet

None of the contractures or masses have hurt much until this middle finger, right now I am waiting for it to bend more than 30% so I can have surgury to release contracture I have a knuckle pad on the middle finger too and it DEFINATELY hurts when impacted. I have been told to expect surgury every 3-5 years. The mass in my foot involves two of my toes, and is quite large what could I expect from surgury. I have already had 4 surguries and the last ones scar runs from my my big toe to my heel it was serious hospital for 4 -5 days a drainage tube lots of time off in recovery very sensitive scar. I know that I throw my weight to my other foot and I do not run or really extend/stretch the bottom of my foot for any reason other than an emergency.

Re: contracture in hands and feet

Also, for contracture releases in your hands, please look into NA and/or Xiaflex injections as possible alternatives to fare more invasive open hand surgery.

If you have family and can travel to Florida...you're in luck...Contact Dr. Charles Eaton in Jupiter, Florida at www.handcenter.org and get his opinion.
He is the best doctor and has the most experience in NA procedures in the U.S.

If its Radiation Therapy you are interested in... check out posts on this forum and read what others have to say and read about it on the menu on the left side. Many on this forum (myself included) have had very positive results with RT.

Best of luck to you...

Re: contracture in hands and feet

Also, there are NA several practitioners in Canada. If memory serves, both Vancouver and Toronto do have doctors that perform NA. Their names and contact info are listed in the applicable section of this (wonderful) web site and are very easy to find.
