Re: Crawling burning sensation in hand

I have cords on both heads in the webbing between my thumb and index finger. I had NA on my right one two months ago, because my thumb was contracting toward my index finger. I now also have a cord going up my right thumb and it is being watched carefully because I was told it will likely eventually cause my thumb to contract.

The cord in my thumb was noticed two weeks ago, and my DD is very active and aggressive. We are hoping it will slow down, but otherwise, my Dr. Thnks it will be contracting before the end of the year. The NA on the webbing between my thumb and index finger was only successful for two months, and it is already starting to contract again.

LubaM.:

I have never read about contractures of the thumb of this forum. I also have nodules in the web of both hands between thumbs and index fingers, and on both hands two cords that run from the base of the thumb to about half way into the palm of the hand, these cords pull on the thumbs at the MCP joints but the thumbs as well as the next three fingers in both hands are totally functional and straight.

I am lucky in that eight of my fingers are totally straight, my only affected fingers are the two pinkies. The left one that had the NA less than three months ago, results were not great, just minimal improvement.
LubaM.

On my RH my index finger seems to be OK but on my LH both the index and middle fingers and contracted and the cord on the LH is more developed.

Re: Crawling burning sensation in hand

I developed nodules in the webbing of both hands about six months ago. Now my right hand has a very, very thick cord running from the index finger to the thumb and the thumb is pulling in toward my palm. My mom had the same thing with her thumbs. She never had any treatment on her thumbs and now it is too late to really fix them. She only recently had NA done on two fingers. The hand doctor told her that fixing her thumbs would require skin grafts. At her age she decided not to mess with it.

Now I'm watching my thumb do the same thing. I feel pretty sure the left hand thumb will follow the same course. Sigh.

Dawn: NA can fix it if it is not too aggressive. Consult your Dr before it is too late. I have another appt with my dr in a few weeks, and will wait to see what he has to say. I would not be surprised if my OT makes a splint this week to pull my thumb out, or if my surgeon suggests a more aggressive NA in the near future.

Thanks. My doctor and I are keeping a close watch on things right now. I hope to get a second opinion in the next couple of weeks as well.

Hi Sharrin,
I am curious as to why you are not opting for radiation?

At this point my Dr is recommending against radiation because it is not covered by my insurance, and because it is not offered conveniently in my area. I also have several different issues with my hands and my hand is still recovering from other surgery.

Re: Crawling burning sensation in hand

I also have bilateral thumb-index web space cords. I had a segmental fasciectomy in Feb/13. My referrals were turned down by the only doctors who perform NA near by (Ontario) so I went with my best option. The cord disappeared for 2 months, but now had returned and tightened even more. New cord tightening from my thumb's DIP joint in towards my web space, inserting near proximal 2nd metacarpal. I also see a tightening from my thumb running across to my pinky when I try to stretch my thumb. I asked the doctor who treated me about trying to get radiation therapy, he laughed at me. Then mocked me for bring the printed list from this web site of locations which offer radiation therapy and NA. Needless to say I'm still in search for a doctor...
Good news is my carpal tunnel is gone, I had it released at the same time in Feb.
