doctor in NYC? i'm back, with a new nodule
Hello, all!
Some of you might remember me. I haven't posted in a long, long time. I first found all of you a few years ago while I was living in London -- I was diagnosed after developing a knuckle pad. (I developed Ledderhose a few years before). I was really depressed when I was first diagnosed and thought nobody would ever want to date me (!), but I've since come to my senses and even started painting my nails red again.
Well, I'm 36 now and back in New York City, and I also now have a nodule under my right thumb that is bothering me -- I always have to click my thumb straight, and I'm worrying I can't ignore this anymore.
I've searched for doctors in New York City on this forum but haven't come up with anything. The closest suggestion is Dr. Gary Press in NJ, but surely there must be a good surgeon in Manhattan? I don't have any contracture yet, but at this rate...
Any help is, as always, much appreciated. I am so grateful this site is still here. I look forward to catching up on recent discussions and contributing.

My first question is, "what would you want a surgeon for?"
You said, "a good surgeon in Manhattan? I don't have any contracture yet ....
You might consider radiation at this stage. You might not have any further development of the Dupuytren's and need nothing.

Thanks, Callie. Of course I'd like to avoid surgery, but the nodule is quite bothersome and causing my thumb to click into place.
As for radiation -- I'm concerned, because I'd still like to have children. Perhaps this is ignorant of me to say, and I need to do some more research.

With regard to your "thumb having to click into place".... any chance you have TRIGGER FINGER?

Yes, it may be Trigger Finger, but I know it's connected with DD because my mother also has both DD and LD -- and I've also had LD for many years.

After spending more time researching, I've decided to contact both Dr. Sanfilippo at NYU Radiation Oncology Associates as well as Dr. Raskin, also at NYU. Will keep the forum posted.

You are probably right, they are all connected... I now have DD in both hands and LD in one foot, but years ago before it all started, I had trigger finger in my right thumb and had scheduled surgery to correct it... a couple of days before the surgery the finger stopped clicking on its own...

I had nodules all over my palm including the thumb. I had NA to release cords then RT that ended the itchy, crawly sensations and I got my grip back. Glad you are looking at all options. Other than progression of the nodules/disease, what symptoms do you have of the disease being active? It needs to be active for RT to be effective.

I had nothing but a knuckle pad for about five years before this nodule appeared, and rather quickly, at the base of my thumb. The thumb had been clicking for over a year before. BUT, the specialist who diagnosed me on the basis of the knuckle pad knew it was DD because of my family history, my LD, and because he said he could feel excess tissue underneath my palm. The other symptom I've had has been numbing of the hand during cold and humid weather.
I've just left a message for Dr. Sanfilippo's secretary at NYU radiation oncology...
