Re: Dr. Rose in Austin

Thanks Wolfgang. I think that is the same situation with mine. At this point mine is only bent 20 degrees or so. Would you mind telling me what degree yours is bent and how long it took to get that way? I'm just trying to figure how much time I have before it starts hindering me. It has taken about a year and a half to get to 20 degrees.

Re: Dr. Rose in Austin

Luba,

Yes, I know that I should probably have radiotherapy when the disease is showing signs of being active (it kind of comes and goes as far as I can tell). The issues are cost (i.e. will my insurance cover it?) and time/distance. Since I live in Los Angeles, if I were to do it I'd probably do it with Scripps in La Jolla. But it's a bit far to commute to on a daily basis, staying in La Jolla implies a certain cost, and (mostly) it's difficult to take off work for two weeks. Perhaps some day. Good luck to you (and all) in your battles with this "odd" disease.

If you decide some day to do it at Scripps in La Jolla there is a nice hotel only 4 miles away from there that gives a "medical discount" for people getting treated at Scripps...(last November I paid $69 for a very nice room with kitchen). As far as insurance... when I had RT I submitted it to Medicare and Blue Cross and they covered all the treatment. Good luck.

Re: Dr. Rose in Austin

Hi,

I might be in the worng section fo this forum, but...I have been diagnosed with DD, right hand, palm (I think heading to pinkie).

Its only a nodule at the moment. I would love to have the nodule removed straightaway before it even has chance to develop ! ?

My hadnd is 100% working with small tightness when stretching, but I fear the future and would love to see if the nodule could be removed with minor sugery before a more serious proceedure needs to be done. My phtoos are on here somewhere.

Any suggestions. Oh, Im in UK, but I dont mind paying private...Its knowledge I need, not NHS. Nothing wrong with our NHS service at all, but I simply would be prepared to pay to remove the nodule to move thigns faster, adn NHS will not do much until its 45% +

You might read the info on the left menu, e.g. the section on stages and therapies http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr..._therapies.html.

Actually NHS is better than you might think: they are currently in the process of evaluating radiotherapy for Dupuytren's disease http://www.dupuytren-online.info/Forum_E...0_746_3.html#29

Re: Dr. Rose in Austin

MJengland,

If a nodule is all you have, I would consider Radiation Therapy. I had RT last November on left hand and left foot. Nodules are definitely much smaller and softer, I can open my hand much wider and I believe that the progression of the disease has stopped, for now. For me there were no side effects whatsoever, so I think its a great first choice treatment.

@Mike S:

I believe there is a potential of aggrevating the Dupuytren's when surgery is performed. While it is a bummer to have lumps on my hand, I would rather have lumps than bent fingers. Please consider learning more about this disease before you consider surgery - I'm guessing that even the hand surgeons would tell you to wait - that's what I was told.

Good luck, Diana
