Dupuytren Diagnosis?

Hi All,

just registered on this forum as i am looking for help regarding my condition and would greatly appreciate your input.

About 3 years ago i started to experience severe acute pains in my right hand, generally around the middle and third fingers. Any physical work involving drilling, screwing or general spanner stuff would leave my hand in excrutiating pain as though it was trying to close up.

I have attended hospital several times to see consultants and have various tests (MRI etc). They have ruled out arthritis and cannot see any damage or bone defects. They then said it was trigger finger although after reading about this, i did not have the `clicking` effect of this condition.

I had the operation for trigger finger back in January and the condition still exists and after a recent visit i was then told they think i may have Dupuytren`s although i am uncertain because of the pain i suffer.

I would be grateful of any feedback.

Regards, Ben.

Re: Dupuytren Diagnosis?

Do you have any lumps, bumps, or cords on hands. Usually DC starts off with a nodule, or some other kind of formation. When my DC first started i had a lot of pain, but not excrutiating. The pain has subsided since the first onset as well. If they did surgery already, they should have been able to test the tissue for DC. Dr. thought it was a cyst on my hand and had surgery, turned out to be DC instead.
Definately get some second, third opinions if possible.

Re: Dupuytren Diagnosis?

Ben,
It doesn't sound like Dupuytren's. The clicking sound and pain could be associated with tendons not sliding inside the tendon sheath. This would be affected by physical exertion in the immediate area of the hand which is causing local swelling.

Re: Dupuytren Diagnosis?

I had a lot of pain, a cramping sensation. I think it was because of the inflamation of the cords etc. I developed Dupuytrens after a fracture of the wrist.

Re: Dupuytren Diagnosis?

Hi Guys,

A very many thanks for the replies, i too am not convinced this latest diagnosis is correct. I am due back at the consultants in late August and will insist on a second opinion.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Ben.
