Re: Dupuytren's in the wrist?

I think the computer mouse has a lot to do with the irritation in my wrist too. Years ago, my right wrist started hurting, so I switched the mouse to my left hand. Then my left wrist started hurting too. My wrist lumps (I don't have any other in my hands.) are small and very hard. They do not look like fluid-filled cysts. They seem just like the ones I have on my feet. The lumps themselves are not very sore, but it seems as if they are pressing on something else.

Re: Dupuytren's in the wrist?

I developed a fairly big nodule (already also creating a cord) below my MCP. It's exactly where my night splint ends and I suspect that the frequent, unconcious pressing of the edge of the night splint started this nodule.

But still worth noting: not every nodule in the palm is necessarily Dupuytren's. It might have other causes (see http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr..._therapies.html).

Re: Dupuytren's in the wrist?

I sent an email to Dr. Denkler, who did NA on my Dups cords and described the lumps on my wrist. I asked if he had experience with Dups in the wrist. He responded that he has rarely seen Dups in the wrist. He did say that an MRI could help and is a good idea. He said that if it is Dups, XRT can help.

It's hard to know what to do, because I don't want to overreact. On the other hand, (not a pun), from other's and my own experiences, it seems that once Dups shows up in one form, it often pops up in other places or other forms. Also, sooner rather than later seems to be the way to go.

I've got cords and no visible nodules going on in my left hand, almost the opposite of what my right hand did. I don't feel compelled to do anything immediate on that, so I think I will watch the lumps on my wrist for a while also and see what happens.

Re: Dupuytren's in the wrist?

These lumps seem to pop up randomly. Even though I had pain in my foot since I was in my twenties, I did not get the Ledderhose (foot) lumps till my early 60's. The new foot lumps that I developed this February are in a strange position according to the podiatrist. They are on the little toe side of each foot under the arch, but actually visible from the top of the foot. Usually the foot lumps are in the middle of the arch. It sounds to me like the Dupuytren's lumps are generally in the palm, but some of us may not follow the pattern!

My general practitioner doctor had never heard of Dupuytren's. Of course, nothing showed up on the hand X-rays he took. The rheumatologist he sent me to didn't see anything either and told me to go shopping. So far, the medical professionals have not helped me on this disease.

Re: Dupuytren's in the wrist?

I was fortunate that my GP and dermatologist knew immediately what it was. Other than that, they only knew of referral to a hand surgeon for surgery when it got bad enough. I am educating them and they are totally open and glad to have the info about alternative early treatments to tell other patients about. They get several patients a year with Dupuytren's. They saw the positive results, so far, of NA and RT on my hand.

It helps us all the hear how Dups shows up on other people. We know to expect the unexpected and options to consider.
