knuckle pad in 9 year old girl

hi - hope I am ok to post over here aswell as on the ledderhose section.
I am a mum to a 9 year old with a pf in her foot following a trauma at the age of 1.5 at the moment that is fine with no issues.
However she does have what seems to be a knuckle pad type thing going on in a couple of fingers of her left hand (she is left handed) It is painful at the moment - she has had them for around 3 months now & we are waiting to see her consultant but that is unlikely to be before July now I would imagine. Is there anything anyone can recommend to easy off the discomfort? Has anyone had them disappear once they have come about & has anyone found they have restricted movement in time or are they just a bit odd looking.
Thank you in advance
Zoe

Re: knuckle pad in 9 year old girl

Hi Zoe,

My anecdote is merely one of many, so you need to take that into account.

The first thing to do is not to panic. I can understand that seeing DD like symptoms in one so young can be distressing.

There is some information on this website with regard to knuckle pads.

I am a 62 yo male, but first had Ledderhose nodule when about 8 and knuckle pads in my early teenage years. I had surgery on one knuckle - but it was arguably worst after the surgery. Mysteriously, my knuckle pads mostly disappeared in my middle years (around 35). I have a rather large one left on a pinky finger that is now affected by DD.

A lot of time has passed since my early experiences, so I would be cautious with projecting my surgical experience. Notwithstanding, if the pain is bearable, I would suggest doing nothing for the moment and just watch what happens. I can vaguely remember my pads being painful, but that must have gone away!

Regards,

Chris.
