Massage Therapy of the Hands

Has anyone used massage therapy for DD of the hands? Does it help? Is it worth a try?

Anyone know of a massage therapist in the Miami,Florida area who knows about Dupuytren, and exactly how to massage the condition?

thanks

Re: Massage Therapy of the Hands

There are mixed feelings about massage therapy for Dupuytren's. I think it would not be beneficial because it wouldn't slow down the cell formation and might stimulate it.

I am currently in hand therapy following surgery for failed trigger finger and Dupuytrens. One of the things they do is scar massage. They have said multiply times to stay as far away from massaging cords as possible, because the research they have read, it can cause cords to become more active.

Please ask them what research specifically they are referring to. Thank you!

Hi Lowell

there is this thread http://www.dupuytren-online.info/Forum_E...erapy-2_18.html
to look at over on the other therapies forum on this site.

It may take a long search, but yes, there are massage therapists and PT's that have successfully stopped the progression of Dups especially in the early stages.
