Medical Disability?

I am fairly new to this site and I can't believe the outpouring of concern from you guys. I have already made one friend and I'm looking forward to making more. Thank you so much to whomever built this site!!

Because I'm a writer (I like to say a writer by trade and an artist by love), I'm finding it increasingly difficult to continue writing and editing. I am a technical writer and I am expected to write and edit documents upwards of 100 pages with a very quick turn-around time often in just a few days. This requires using the mouse and the keyboard for 8 hours straight 5 days a week. By the time I leave to go home, my right hand especially (it is the one most affected. But I do have it in both hands) is throbbing. I often drive home just using my left hand because my right hand hurts too much.

Does anyone know if I might qualify for full medical disability? I have looked at the federal web site for medical disability and it does cover "joint disorder." It also states that the doctor who needs to supply them the medical info is the primary doctor, not necessarily the specialist.

Is there anyone out there who has looked into this?

Thanks.

Re: Medical Disability?

Hi, I am also brand new to this site. I notice that no one has replied to your post, but perhaps it has been aswered elsewhere on this site (if so, can someone point me to the appropriate thread?)

I also depended on my hands for a living (worked in accounting). I have been unable to work for the last two years due to pain in both hands (along with a host of other conditions that have developed concurrently). I only just finally got a diagnosis of Depuytren's disease (nodules starting popping up), but my doctor supports that the developing Depuytren's interfered with the healing of tendinitis and tenosynovitis (both hands) causing the unbearable pain I ended up with. I am currently still fighting for continued LTD benefits (they have paid some, but keep cutting me off), and SSDI. Would be interested to hear if anyone has been succussful in the pursuit of disabiltiy benefits.

Thanks, and I look forward to exploring the wealth of information and support on this site.
