More questions & comments from NY Doctor Visits

I've been having a considerable amount of pain and tenderness since this disease started. I was told to use and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory which I've been doing. Does this pain eventually settle down?

Also, for the past 5 years I've gone to Curves which is an exercise circuit for women. Since most machines require a grip I've taken a leave over the past month. When I questioned the surgeon about this - he told me to avoid gripping as it might cause more problems. Your thoughts please on how much to use the hands vs. babying them? I really miss working out yet even driving my car causes me tenderness (I've been using gloves to drive). Suggestions???

Thanks for your comments and help.

I think your surgeon was wise. He said, "When I questioned the surgeon about this - he told me to avoid gripping as it might cause more problems. Your thoughts please on how much to use the hands vs. babying them? "

I feel in my situation, that excessive pressure put on the Dupuytren's affected fingers increases the activity of the disease.
