Dynasplint makes one for the MCP joints on the four fingers but not the thumb.(http://www.dynasplint.com/joints/finger/) The splint is a rental. I was told by the Dynasplint rep. that the one I have cost $225 a month. My portion is suppose to be 20%. I haven't recieved any bills yet. I think it is overpriced, even if my insurance covers most of the cost. I'll probably only keep it for a month and then use the fixxglove.

Re: NA with Dr.Pess

Steve,

That is pricey.

I did ask a place that makes splints and things. I was told that a prescription is required and that insurance doesn't pay. I hadn't mentioned what insurance I have, so it sounds like no insurance pays.

If anybody gets an idea about how to improvise, let us know OR patent it and start making them at a reasonable price.

Re: NA with Dr.Pess

I think if I'd been given a splint like that after the conventional surgery on my pinkie, it wouldn't be the bent-up mess it is today.

Whether or not stretching can counteract a contracture has never, in my mind, been really established. I've seen a convincing study showing that it can't, because of the tissue changes that occur in response. On the other hand, the "Digit Widget" (Google it) has been used to at least partially straighten severely contracted fingers prior to surgery. So my feeling is that peristent stretching with sufficient force can straighten a joint, but it may not be permanent.

I wish I could just buy one of those DynaSplints and try wearing it at night for a couple of months, on one of my partially contracted fingers.
