New Here

I have an appt. to see a doctor next week. Anything specific I should ask about? At this point my fingers are still straight. DC runs in my family. Is that always the case?

Re: New Here

Do you have any indication that you might have Dupuytren's? Many people go through their whole life without contraction from their Dupuytren's.

In my opinion, it is a good idea to ask the doctor point blank what treatment regime he/she recommends for Dupuytren's, even if you do not get a positive diagnosis on that particular day.

Typically, a doctor's training background and personal experiences will lead to at least some element of bias regarding how Dups should be treated and it's good to know as early as possible whether this particular medical professional is in the "wait 'til you need surgery" camp, the "treat it early and aggressively camp", or somewhere in between.

Knowing this early can save you lot's of time and money later on...

Of course you should also mention that Dups runs in your family as data do indicate a strong genetic component.

Re: New Here

Hi Australia Calling."Hueston",who is known for the 'table top test'(means of measuring contraction) coined a phrase"Dupuytren diathesis"the following are predisposing factors :-
Strong family history;Onset at an early age;Occurrence of mutiple and ectopic fibromatous deposits;eg.Morbus Ledderhose, knuckle pads,Peyronie's disease.(males) I found it invaluable to study up prior to going to the medical practitioner.Have you read the literature by LUCK . ( Search left para Dupuytren/disease literature. )This article is still relevant today. Regards
