New novel about a doctor with Dupuytren's Contracture

I had Dupuytren's Contracture for several years. At first, it was just annoying... slightly bent pinkie on my left hand. I had no pain whatsoever. Over time, it continued to worsen until it was curled to the point of almost touching my palm. It was difficult to get anything out of my pocket, and it was actually catching on things. It ached from time to time, but not unbearable.
I began to do a lot of research on the condition. I knew I didn't want the procedure that Dupuytren had developed. I was pretty sure I didn't want the Needle Aponeurotomy. A friend of mine had that done, and it wasn't long before his fingers were curled again.
When Xiaflex became available, I called a doctor who was authorized to do the procedure. He got the approval from Blue Cross - Blue Shield for the $4000 procedure. At the time, I had started writing a novel about a doctor who was a hand surgeon, and he had the condition. At a follow-up visit after the procedure, my doctor asked me how the book was coming. I told him I had to go back and re-write part of it to add some screaming and yelling. He said, "I didn't say it wasn't going to hurt." It did hurt, but the results were amazing. That was about two years ago, and my finger is totally straight, and is completely flexible. I highly recommend it.
My novel is complete and is available on Amazon. If you have questions about Dupuytren's Contracture or the Xiaflex procedure, please feel free to email me at satkins1@suddenlink.net

Re: New novel about a doctor with Dupuytren's Contracture

Thanks for posting .... I have not heard much good about Xiaflex previously .. Ex pain ...swelling etc..

I did have N.A. on small left pinkie in 2009 ... 95 degree contracture at the PIP joint along with nodules...Still perfect after all this time ... nodules still in finger but smaller and so far no real problem ..
Very very little pain involved with the procedure ..

Opposite is a similar story and outcome..

And, I had surgery on my little finger (90 degrees contracture) almost 12 years ago. Finger is still perfect at this time. Every procedure has its drawbacks and rewards. Every person has different results it seems.
