Newbie, diagnosed this morning with Dupuytren's

35 year old male of European ancestry with nodules in both palms that really started to grow about a year ago (possibly as a result of taking a collagen supplement for knee problems). Now, I've got a small pit growing in the right palm, a small nodule just starting below that hand's ring finger's second knuckle, and both ring fingers can't quite straighten on their own. I can still flatten both hands on a tabletop with no strain or discomfort.

Figured it was time to confirm what I've suspected for months now, and this morning, a hand surgeon made it official. It's a classic case of bilateral Dupuytren's.

The doc talked me thru the options (leaving out radiation, as I understand they often do in the US) and recommended doing nothing until I can't do the table test anymore. All in all, it's a relief to have a diagnosis and put a name on it.

Having lurked here a while, and learned a lot, thought I'd drop by and say hi!

Re: Newbie, diagnosed this morning with Dupuytren's

Yes, radiation is done in the US. Go to the menu at the left of this page, click on "Radiation therapy" and look at the clinics that do it. Sounds like you may be a good candidate. I had mine done at Scripps in La Jolla/San Diego.

Research everything you can. There is a ton of stuff on this website. Use all of the links to access it. You can also use the "Search web site" to find something specific.

Come back and ask questions anytime.

It must feel good to have the diagnosis. It can be unsettling not to know what is going on. - Mike
