Newbie Dupuy

Hi, I'm new to this site and have been reading thru the forums looking for information re Dupy.
Just over a year ago I started feeling discomfort in my right hand. At the time we thought maybe it was Rhuematoid Arthritis so I went to a Rhuematologist who felt a small nodule in the palm of my hand. It slowly grew until it became visible below my middle finger in the palm of my hand. I have pain and weakness and was sent to a hand surgeon. He said it's not Dupuy because it would be my ring finger not the middle and suggested surgery. Now 4 months later I DO have a 2nd nodule and this one is beneath my ring finger. I've looked at enough pictures to know that it most likely IS dupuytren's but I just don't know what type of doctor to see since the last hand specialist was recommended by my primary.
I'm also very interested in a post I read regarding a link between Dupuy (or dupuy like symptoms) and ovarian cancer. Without getting too off subject I'm seeing my GYN on the 14th due to suspicion of Ovarian Cancer and would really appreciate any info in advance.
Thanks! I'm so glad I found this site, it's helped just reading all the stories, questions and answers.

JenRo,
Sorry to hear about your Dupuytren's (DD) and suspicion of Ovarian Cancer...best of luck on your GYN appt. on the 14th. After the 14th, when your GYN appt. is taken care off and you are ready to deal with your DD....here's my own opinion:

- Read all you can on DD on this website (see menu on left side of this page) read also all about Needle Aponeurotomy and Xiaflex....
or you can go to Dr. Eaton's website at www.handcenter.org for good information on Dupuytren's Disease.

- Form your own opinion and come back with questions to this Forum...you'll get lots of advice.

- If you have growing nodules on your hand, and before any cords develop that can start contracting your fingers, consider radiation therapy (RT).... a great first choice to stop the progression of the disease. I had RT ten months ago and am very satisfied with the results, so far.

- Surgery should be your last choice. Most surgeons (like the one you saw) will advise to have surgery without considering the other choices...actually many GP doctors and surgeons don't know much about Dupuytren's.

Re: Newbie Dupuy

I don't think there is any credible evidence linking Dupuytren's Disease and cancer.
