The X-ray treatment of my hands was delayed as a result of my trusting both primary care physician and a hand surgeon who teaches at Stanford Medical. As a result the disease which was most prevalent in my left hand continues to progress while my right hand which also received the radiation treatment but was not as far along at the time (only a single nodule and no contracture) has shown no further progression of the disease.
It is truly wonderful that there are some caring doctors in the USA that are willing to provide XRT for Dupuytrens. For anyone without insurance you should be aware that the treatment at the Essen clinic in Germany charges about $600 US per series of treatments while the cost in the USA for me (second round of radiation) was $8000. The difference can cover one heck of a lot of travel expense and the treatments can be scheduled for early AM so you have the rest of the day for sight seeing.

I appreciate all the responses and I'm gathering information but I'm certainly leaning toward radiation. Now I have to find a radiologist (hopefully in NY) and also see if my insurance covers this expense. I got the names of 2 more hand surgeons at the NY Hospital for Special Surgery. I'm not sure if I should see another hand doctor or just try to find a radiologist at this point. I might have to go through the insurance channels.
Can anyone advise me about over-the-counter meds to relieve the hand discomfort. Is advil or motrin or any other type recommended? Also, is hot or cold better for this condition? I get up in the morning very stiff and don't know how to find a comfort zone in my hands and feet. I try running my hands under water but not sure if either hot or cold could bother it more. I have not yet had my feet diagnosed but I'm feeling like something's certainly going on there as well.
My head's still in a bit of a spin with this. I thank each and everyone on this site for all your concerns and input.

Go see Dr. Gary Pess in Eatontown NJ. He's about an hour's drive from the GWB. He does NA and other surgery. I don't know if he does radiation though.

I will keep his name in my saved files but for now I am focusing on finding radiation therapist. I will keep updates as I make some progress.

Hi!
For radiation treatment, you would need a radiation oncologist...the same kind of doctor who treats cancer with radiation. They would have the necessary equipment. It might be worth your while to make an appointment with a radiation oncologist and if they are unfamiliar with Dupuytren's, bring some of the literature from this website (under Radiation Therapy) with you. Although my radiation oncologist, Dr. Kuhn, told me that the treatment of Dupuytren's is in on of the main handbooks radiation oncologists use.
