Re: Night splinting ??

Hi all,

Thought I would update you, my Rt has had some little effect, my nodules in my palm and ring finger are flatter. My ring finger was measuring at a V size previous and now my ring finger has gone down to a S size, so I have been able to have one of my wedding bands made bigger to fit!and it feels great to wear one of them again. This was something I really struggled to accept, not wearing my weddings rings.

I still wear my night slint. It has become part of my normal night ritual. I am so used to it now that I find it comforting. My fingers have not curled in any further.

Mornings are the best, once I have taken the splint off and loosened up the hand as it does feel stiff . I do notice at the end of the day my finger want to curl in again..

So it is an endless battle... and one I will not give up on.

I know splinting does not work for everyone and I feel lucky that it is helping me.

Take care all and don't give up..

P.S

I also do gentle massage , defo no stretching.. whether I should or not I don't know. I have no support from any one in the NHS, so I just do my own thing now.

Re: Night splinting ??

Dottyhand,

That is great that the splints are helping. Anything that helps are slows down the progress is good news.

I'm wearing full splints on both of my hands. I look like I'm going to bed with flippers on. lol. The idea behind mine was to keep my hands from curling into fists while I slept. Keeping them extended while sleeping is keeping them from being so swollen in the mornings and also keeps the pain down. I have a lot of pain in both hands.

I've already had to have the left hand splint reformed. That hand is rapidly getting worse. So a few weeks ago that splint simply wouldn't fit. But the OT remelted it and made it fit my current hand's shape.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
