Nodule is sore and hurts - what does this mean

Are nodules supposed to hurt. Someone told me if it does, it is not Dupuytrens. I have a nodule below my ring finger in the crease of my palm on my right hand, and its sore most of the time! Also it hurts quite a bit when I press on it.

Is this a sign that it is not Dupuytrens? NOTE: I have nodules in both hands that don't hurt by the way. I don't have any contractures, even though I have had these things for 4 years (however they suddenly got worse over the period of the last two-three months), especially that one nodule. Also my thumbs feel sore when I move them a certain way and sometimes my fingers too.

I can press my hands flat on a table (using the test), but I do feel an uncomfortable stretch feeling in my hands, and in my right hand, a lot of stretch along the length of the lower part of my ring finger into my palm where that sore nodule is.

appreciate any input

thanks

Re: Nodule is sore and hurts - what does this mean

Whenever I develop a new nodule, it is quite painful for a long time. Months. They do seem to eventually stop hurting so much. Although, any nodule I have hurts when pressed on. My hands in general seem to hurt more than a lot of people with DC and they've attributed that to being diabetic, but who knows.

I think it is common for nodules to be sore.

Re: Nodule is sore and hurts - what does this mean

I read in some medical review articles that the nodules are typically tender at first. Two nodules on my feet were very painful initially, but now only hurt with extended walking. Although my hands have yet to be formally diagnosed, I am pretty sure they are DD, and the nodules on my knuckles and the one on the underside of my finger were painful when they first arose, but mainly when they were touched. Now, they do not hurt unless I press pretty firmly. They also went from being softer to becoming hard like a marble or, in the case of my knuckles, like bone. I know they are not bone, however, because sometimes they get smaller, which I also read can happen. A lump on my foot shrank so much after I got orthotics that I cannot even see it anymore.

My nodules were extremely sore and stayed that way until I had RT. The DD actually made my entire arm ache. It was the pain in the arm and hand that finally drove me to see a doctor.

My nodules were VERY tender for months. After RT the soreness dissipated but I understand it's fairly normal for that to happen even without treatment - was described to me as the skin adapting to the pressure (and pitting, puckering, etc) caused by the nodule. My hands are just very sensitive on the whole now and I try to protect them as much as possible.

I've had DD for 4-5 years. Large knuckle pads and nodules on my fingers. They all hurt all of the time. I think it's more common than reported in the literature.
