Re: Possible accelerated cause of Dupuytrens Contracture
I believe my 84 year old mother has this condition. She is going to the doctor tomorrow. She too has been eating a LOT of peanuts. Pretty much a whole 5lb bag recently. She also has been going through a sugar phase. Lots of Big Red, sweet croissants and very sweet koolaid.

Re: Possible accelerated cause of Dupuytrens Contracture
Somehow I think the foodstuffs would be - as one physician put it to me - 'highly unlikely' - but the age I think could definitely be a contributing factor. (But then who am I to know. So much surrounding Dupuytren's - even from the profiting medics - is fundamental guesswork.) 'Tis a puzzlement.

Salt and sugar cravings is a addiction to these foods. A lifetime of eating these foods can cause the brain to crave ..feel better foods.... Comfort foods. When shopping for her get sugar free or use a sugar from a plant called the Stevia plant to add to drinks. This sugar does not go thru the liver, or signal high glucose sugar levels in the blood. There is also substitute for salt. I had to give these up years ago myself. Eating healthy for many years never stopped my DD in my experience. These foods are connected to heart disease and diabetes .
Every once in awhile I'll eat a cookie with real sugar and it's has now left my cravings desire and sugar makes me cringe when I eat it, way to sweet ,especially in foods like carbs and drinks. I use in tea a sugar sub and drink lots of water. No processed foods. Lettuce wraps. Whole grain breads. Processed foods have way to much sugar & salt . The intake for prepared foods micro wave boxed foods can have a weeks intake of salt and sugar, in 1 serving. Even when it's listed low salt/sugar. She can eat lots of fiber rich foods to break the cravings & not feel hungry & lots fresh foods. Stay with massage and minimal invasive treatments until a doc can diagnose her hands. Nodes in hands don't always mean DD.
Foods in my experience has little connection to DD. Most DD is caused by injury or hereditary, or other types of issues. Little pea sized lumps in palms finger slightly bent. First signs of DD dimples in palms near tendons? Some have pain in others not so much. Always start with the least invasive treatment as possible if diagnosis is DD.
I have DD for over 25 years. Nothing I eat has changed the DD. DD is when collagen is built up slowly pull down the fingers in the palms. If her fingers are bending forward. If I may suggest a splint at night can help contain the DD from progressing
Sorry this turned into a long story. Experience sometimes takes time to cover the many complicated aspects of this disease. Plz keep in touch let us know the diagnosis. A good rhumey or hand specialist in DD would be a good place to start. I also have other arthritis in my hands. Hope your mom is better soon.

Re: Possible accelerated cause of Dupuytrens Contracture
DD is a systemic disease that is unfortunately almost exclusively analysed and treated as a mechanical problem. Until someone finds the cause of this disease , it does seems a little early to discard nutrition as a contributer to it. Healthy food for a healthy person is not the same as healthy food for a diabetic person. There seems to be a link between glucosamine and DD, it should indicate that there is some kind of link with nutrition and metabolism that we should pay attention to. The higher prevalence of DD in diabetic persons as well as the higher prevalence of DD among people under medication for epilepsy should also be a hint to investigate,or a least suspect nutrition as a contributor or catalyst.

Re: Possible accelerated cause of Dupuytrens Contracture
I like the way you think, Vikingorgins! Thanks for your reply.
Here's a website worth visiting in the quest for an answer to the question about DD and diet: http://growyouthful.com/ailment/dupuytrens-disease.php
I have been trying magnesium oil (transdermal application, not oral). No way to tell effectiveness.
I had been nearly 100% sugar-abstinent for 4.5 years. Then, last summer I fell back into the habit of sugar and deserts. That's when my DD started. Related? Maybe so. Maybe this discussion will help me become sugar-abstinent again (I hope!)
Wishing you all the best, Peacefulbird Washington state, USA right hand DD, onset Oct. 2015

Re: Possible accelerated cause of Dupuytrens Contracture
A statistical correlation does not mean there is a causal connection. People with DD are more likely to get frozen shoulder and are more likely to be diabetic but it is a stretch to suggest that a particular food group causes both or that one causes the either.

Re: Possible accelerated cause of Dupuytrens Contracture
A statisticsl correlation is not an indication of a causality relationship, but in presence of such corrélations it is a stretch to suggest that food ingestion and its métabolisation have no effect...

Re: Possible accelerated cause of Dupuytrens Contracture
Are you sure that your mother is suffering from Dupuytren's? There are several reasons for bent fingers besides Dupuytren's, therefore a professional diagnosis is best to start.
