Re: Radiation Therapy In The UK.....Advise Needed Please

Sorry for the mis-statement about the bolus. I still have a problem with "proliferating" -- as long as I'm getting new nodules-- isn't it still proliferating? Or if it was on only my RH and then all of a sudden I start getting nodules on the left?

I realize it can't "prevent" nodules from forming if they're not yet there but then you say you had your entire palm radiated exactly the same way I did. (Other patients of Dr. S get a circle drawn around the existing nodule and that's all that gets treated.) Did you have nodules in your entire hand? How long have you had DD?

Thanks for info,
Diane
I was trying to differentiate between terminology of 'early' versus 'active' by using proliferation. So if you are recently getting new nodules then I would say the condition is in proliferation hence active.

I had not heard of ProfS treating a narrow circle around nodules, except in cases of a second treatment (3rd dose of 15Gy), or a large nodule in the case of Ledderhose. Normally he will include sufficient margin for disease outside areas detected by palpation.

I had DD for a couple of years, without realising it, and then it flared up. That was the point I recognised I had something. I could quite reasonably have done nothing, just 'wait and see', but I'm not really a wait and see person. History for me repeats on the other hand right now. Should I wait and see or seek RT? The answer to this is I think different for everyone.

It was the second treatment (first with him) and I'm not 100% sure on the details so I'm not going further.

I had RT in 2009--both hands but only one round each- 15 gy---and until recently my palms were nodule free. I think all the nodules jumped to the space between my MCP and PIP joints! A node/cord is just starting on LH between my index finger and thumb and on my RH I have a cord in the same spot but can't figure out where the nodule is. Just what I need, all 10 digits involved.

We're toying with going to Germany (my SO is at proliferation stage; he has a family history but we joke that he caught it from me) but pretty much feel I'm beyond proliferation stage unless I start getting nodules between MCP and DIP!

I'm not a wait and see person either-- I get NA every two years whether I need it or not.

I concur, regarding Dr. Eaton, I've tried several other hand surgeons, and they can't compare.

BRIANB:
I have read and contributed and shared my experiences regarding Dups .. treatment ... causes ... and preventative measures.

The best option for all current and future suffers of this disease is for Doctor Charles Eaton to be persuaded to return to practice .

This is just my opinion ..

Good Luck to all !
