Re: RT or nothing?

In my 2nd week of RT with Dr. T. Very easy procedure for me - hardest part is getting there every day! Only having one nodule treated - so really just an experiment, as I am feeling other active areas. That's a bit disconcerting. This is an expensive treatment & I won't be ready to address these other areas w/ RT for a while. I know some of you have had many areas done at one time. Maybe this is a reason to wait a while before getting RT?

Hi there,
I have a question for you and please feel free to tell me it's none of my business Do you not have insurance or does your insurance not cover RT? I have Medicare which covers the procedure and I had a very strange thing happen. My treating facility billed my RT treatments and Medicare rejected the claim. Medicare said since I hadn't expected to pay, I wasn't respopnsible (I'd checked first with the facility and they verified that it was covered by Medicare). I expected that the treating facility--which is generally pretty aggressive about billing--used the wrong codes or something similar and would rebill but nearly 6 months later, I've heard nothing. Very strange.

Re: RT or nothing?

Well i'm done with my 10 days of RT. After my second treatment i could tell that my hands felt different. And after my first 5 treatments it was like night and day. I was able to open bottled water, hold my hair dryer and hold my coffee cup without clamping the handle with my hand. By the time i finished my last 5 treatments, my hands was not tight and the nodules had gotten smaller and softer and the cords were no longer visible except for one that is about quarter of an inch long. My side effects - i didn't have any, no sunburn effect, no dry skin but i did get tired from the radiation. I'm very pleased with what it has done for me. With any luck it will get better as time goes by. This is a wonderful treatment for such a horrible disease. I would like to thank everyone on here for the support you gave me while i was trying to decide what to do. Everyone should do this if they can because you won't regret it. My doctor and everyone that works with him are very nice and i would never go anywhere else. If anyone lives near Missouri or in Missouri that is looking for a good doctor his name is Scott C. Cozad and here is his website www.tridocs.com I've added this picture for people that have a fear of radiation. Take care

Re: RT or nothing?

Cindy, so glad it worked for you. Your radiation method looked exactly llike mine. I am pleased you had similar results to mine. My hand has continued to improve, I still have dry skin in the radiated area but am able to dry my hair without my hand dropping the brush, etc..... After 6 months since my last RT I feel like my hand is stronger. It is still a little awkward sometimes and if I use it for strenous activity my cord and nodule will become more prominent. I am pleased with my results and will continue to encourage others to look at this from of treatment.

Keep us posted as the months go on as to how it goes.

Glad it worked Cindy. I'd love to get this myself.

Thanks,
Mike
