safety of radiotherapy

hello again,
my case is in the early stage. i spoke with one u.s. doc who was not encouraging of this treatment. his concern was the long term effects. i am curious to learn more.

please let me know if any other treatment is helpful early on, and what educated members have learned about the safety of rt.

many thanks to all,

susan

Re: safety of radiotherapy

Susan, have a look at the "radiation therapy" pages on the left menu. They include comments on side effects and risks.

Re: safety of radiotherapy

Susan,

I asked my doctor about the chances of getting cancer from the treatment (Dr Weiss) and based on my age (43) I have a 1% chance per hand as I had both done. I asked her what to look for as to signs of development and she told me that I shouldn't see any devlopment for 20 years which put me in my early 60's. The older you are, the less chance it is.

I thought a lot about it and considered what I would expect in my case as far as surgeries and side effects as my Dups was growing fast. In my estimate, I would have a 100% chance of having to have surgury at some point which may result in scarring, potential nerve damage and possible amputation with a 40 to 50 % chance of reoccurrance.

I am not suggesting that you or anyone should take it lightly but im my case it was a no brainer. If your Dups is slow growing you may never need surgery and if that is the case neither radiotherapy.

Hope this helps

Chris
