Seeking a referral

Hi All, this is my first post here.

I am seeking a referral on a U.S. physician.

I've had Dupuytren's for over 5 years and had 2 NA procedures on the same finger (little finger of right hand).

Both NA procedures were performed by Dr. Eaton in Jupiter Beach, FL. The outcome of both procedures was excellent, but after the second NA, the contracture grew back quickly. In just 13 months my finger is as bent as ever. I can't afford to go to Florida again for the procedure, so am looking for a qualified, experienced NA physician in my region of the U.S.

I live in New Jersey and have identified 3 physicians in my region that perform NA:
Jonathan Cluett in Massachusetts
Gary Pess in New Jersey
David Fleiss in New York

Do any of the contributors here have experience with any of these physicians? Please help me find a good NA surgeon. Thanks in advance!

Re: Seeking a referral

No personal experience with NY/NJ NA doctors but others have previously reported highly positive experiences with Dr. Pess and (more recently) with Dr. Fleiss.

Re: Seeking a referral

By all means---Dr. Pess is excellent--one of the pioneers at N/A in the U.S, He is a great guy and has an excellent staff, and is one of the best .............I've been to him twice ...but ....like you it came back in about 13 mos. and he suggested going up the ladder to have some surgery as the N/A would'nt be enough again. So I went to a local surgeon at the end of April 2009. (Involved work on the PIP joint) and also some N/A work on the cord and some nodule work. I'm hoping that it lasts longer because it's 2 1/2 mos. recovery now and still I'm not back to work.(maybe a couple more weeks) But, anyway, you can email him some pictures and he will let you know what he thinks.
Good Luck

Re: Seeking a referral

Thank you Mike S and Yankee21.

Dr. Pess is the shortest drive by far, so with your comments in mind I will give him my business.

Yankee21, please let me know how your recovery from open surgery goes.

Re: Seeking a referral

Yankee21,

What is your work that you haven't gone back? I know some who have had surgery and have worked right away. Surgery is not a bad option. My surgery (90 degrees contraction) was 7 1/2 years ago and there is no sign of Dupuytren's and the scar is nearly invisible.

Re: Seeking a referral

I had my hands operated on in 2000, I had the last 2 finger on each hand done and it has never came back. Here is the doctor who did my surgery.

Re: Seeking a referral

Hi. My name's Chris. I've had Dupuytrens for the past 10 years, and had my first (major) surgery in 2001 on my left hand, although my right hand has now gotten to be worse. Since then, I've been to see Dr Charles Eaton at the Hand Center in Jupiter FL three times. My 2001 surgery was with Dr Errol Ger in Wilmington DE. Both surgeons have agreed that mine is a "vicious" case of Dupuytrens, and I am now on terminal disability, as there isn't much either of them can do at this point. I've been a guitarist since age 10 (I'm now 55), and the emotional pain of not being able to some of the work I used to hurts as much as the physical pain when I try to still push it too far. I've had to quit golf. I'm also a drummer, but can't do much for more than a few minutes anymore. I highly recommend Dr Eaton at the Hand Center. He does a proceudre called Needle Aponeurotomy, which is minimally invasive, and usually successful on less-severe patients. I wish everyone here all the best. Chris

Re: Seeking a referral

I had carpel tunnel surgery on my right hand and now have dupuytren's in my right hand. I think there is a connection even if the surgeon doesn't.
