Strengthening Exercises

Hi,

Currently i am a first year Physiotherapy student. I have been asked to conduct a fifteen minute presentation on Dupuytren's Contraction. I have a few general questions that i was wondering if you could help me with?

What tissues are impinged during Dupuytren's Contracture? say for example it was the ring finger. Are the extensors/flexors of the fingers affected?

If so, do they lose strength if they are in the contracture position for a prolonged period of time?

What strengthening exercises are advised? I am guessing the palmar fascia of the hand by squeezing softer objects first then progressing to harder objects. So from sponge to playdough (plasticine).

I have suggested that the fingers require strengthening if they have been in the contracture position. However i am not sure if that is correct. Has anyone had to do strengthen exercises for their fingers following DC?

Hope you don't mind the questions. Would be very appreciative of any information.

Regards,

Guybrush

Re: Strengthening Exercises

The strengthening exercises came with natural daily hand movements for me. Strength was totally restored after about one year following surgery.

A good source of information about your questions is:
