Stupid Question
I know this sounds stupid, but could anyone please tell me how to measure how many degrees a finger is contracted? Thanks for any help.

Measuring extension deficit
Paula,
by no means a stupid question! Actually even doctors have difficulties measuring the angles and two any doctors will measure different extension deficits ... The good news is a few degrees difference won't matter. Maybe below link will help understanding definition and measurement:

Re: Stupid Question
To measure extension my hand therapist uses a
"Baseline HiRes 360 Degree 6" Clear Plastic Goniometer"
You can google this and find them online for about $10 plus shipping. I am currently doing hand therapy after my NA procedure, and plan to buy one when I am done with therapy so that I can monitor the degree of contracture of my PIP joint....for my own curiosity.

Re: E-Z splint
Another good source for an easy reasy-made splint:
http://www.ezywrap.com/p-856-finger-splint.aspx
This is the splint that Dr. Eaton gave me right after my recent NA on the PIP joint small finger. Its not as good as having a custom made one, but I think a good substitute for those who have no access to a custom made splint...check it out.

Re: Stupid Question
My fingers are not where I have had contracture, at least not yet. I haven't seen a ready-made splint that looks like it would stretch across the palm from pinky to thumb and including pinky and thumb. Mostly they look like they would stretch/splint the fingers but not the palm very much.
Any suggestions for ready-made ones for me to look at? Thanks, Flora
