Targeted or non targeted RT
I am slightly confused.
It appears from what I have read and seen that some people are given RT to the whole of the hand and others appear to have some sort of shield which I assume means the rays only penetrate the cords/nodules.
It would seem to me that specifically target RT is preferrable but perhaps someone out there could explain why the difference in treatment?

Re: Targeted or non targeted RT
Usually only the nodule + a "security perimeter" of about 1/2 inch are radiated. The whole hand is only radiated if nodules and cords are all over the palm. Electron beams can be sufficiently focussed, x-rays can not. Therefore the not to be radiated area is shielded with lead when x-rays are being used.

I believe the RT done by Dr. T. in LaJolla,CA uses electron beams. When I had RT last November they also made a molded (clay-like)material with a cut-out for the area to be radiated.
