Wolfgang - any more info on Essen and Prof. Seegenschmidt?

Hi Wolfgang. Have you been able to learn more about Prof. Seegenschmidt and/or the doctor that is currently treating Dupuytren's in Essen?

If my husband and I are going to fly to Germany from California for treatment I think we would feel better if we knew more about the current doctor there etc. Do you have any advice regarding this?

Thanks, Diana

Re: Wolfgang - any more info on Essen and Prof. Seegenschmidt?

Diana, I can't speak for the clinic or for Prof. Seegenschmiedt. The only thing I know is that Prof. Seegenschmiedt doesn't treat at Krupp hospital anymore. He is currently on vacation and my understanding is that he might be working elsewhere sometimes in the future but I don't know when this will be decided. Probably not before 2H09. This is very unfortunate because Seegenschmiedt is a reccognized authority on radiotherapy of Dupuytren's and Ledderhose. It would be a big loss if he stopped treating patients.

With regard to Krupp hospital I guess they will continue offering radiotherapy but I have no idea who will be in charge. I expect that the hospital will tell us when they are ready but they haven't contacted us yet.

Re: Wolfgang - any more info on Essen and Prof. Seegenschmidt?

Thanks Wolfgang.

I just checked the website and it appears as if the Essen and Erlangen contact information are no longer on the clinics section under Radiation Therapy. I don't speak/read German so it's a bit difficult to go to the German website and figure things out.

Most likely I will be paying for the treatment out of pocket and given that, can really go anywhere to have it done. I do have an appointment set up with a hand surgeon through my insurance on Monday to discuss Dupuytren's and another appointment with Dr. T. at Scripps on June 11 but am still very interested in Germany as I've run some numbers and it is cheaper to fly to Germany twice, stay there, and have the treatement than it is to pay for it in the US!

Since Prof. Seegenschmidt isn't at Krupp in Essen I was thinking of contacting Erlangen. Perhaps the doctor that sees the Dupuytren's patients has a lot of experience too, I just don't know.

If any of you out there have words of wisdom and advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Diana

Re: Wolfgang - any more info on Essen and Prof. Seegenschmidt?

Diana,

My husband is German and has family in Germany so after visiting them over the years I can read and understand a lilttle German.

If you go to the German website and scroll down to Strahlentherapie (this means beam or radiate therapy) and go to the WO? section, it will list all the clinics in Germany.

It has phone numbers etc., just like out site.

Good Luck!

Diana--

I don't have any info on Prof. S., however I now have an appointment for 5 days of radio therapy in Essen with Dr. Oppenkowski for June. I will let you know how it goes and what I think of him.

I really felt I couldn't wait any longer doing research on this because my hand seems to be worsening by the week at this point, and due to work, etc. I have a limited window in which to have this procedure taken care of this summer. I also noticed the contact info had been removed, but I have no idea as to why.

Great Alan. I look forward to hearing how it goes for you. I am online at the moment trying to get the last bits of information for the doctor I'm seeing tomorrow. I've been to Google books and am reading Dr. Seegenschmidt's chapter from the book "radiotherapy for Non=Malignant Disorders.

I have a consulatation appointment with the doctor at Scripps, Dr. "T" on June 11 and will also let the forum know how that goes.

I'd be very interested in hearing if they do any type of ultrasound or MRI in Essen before your treatment.

Take care and good luck, Diana

Alan,

Good luck and keep us posted. Travel safe. I know how you feel about the disease progressing quickly. Until I got the steroid shot I felt like it was increasing every day. Now, at least it has settled down and I can make intelligent decisions without feeling pressured.

Diana,

Good luck at the Doctor tomorrow. I had a list of questions and still did not get them all answered. I will be curious to see what the doctor says or recommends.

Take care,

Lori
