Can back surgery activate dupuytren's?

Hi all,

I haven't been on here in a while, which is generally good news. I had my first of 2 radiation treatments on both hands two years ago. Since then the dupuytren's has been essentially inactive. The ledderhose in both feet wasn't treated, but that's pretty much inactive too and the disease has very limited affect on my life. No contractions in the hands, despite what I would consider distinct disease.

I have been having back problems, largely the result of the herniated disk (4 mm), which I will almost certainly need surgery for eventually. I'm trying to push it off as long as I can, but it is limiting what I can do now. It is in fact a much bigger problem than dupuytren's/ledderhose. So my worry is that the surgery might be what reactivates the disease. So I'm interested in hearing from those who have had surgery like this after having dupuytrens. It would be very delightful to hear if there were a case of somebody having such a surgery and it not reactivating the disease. Around the time Dupuytren's started, I had a broken toe and a wisdom tooth pulled, both of which cause bone trauma. As I understand it, in back surgery, them might have to drill through bone or otherwise cause trauma to it, along with cutting through fascia in the back that might be there.

Re: Can back surgery activate dupuytren's?

A few years ago I too was concerned about a surgical procedure and the recurrence or reawakening of my DD. It wasn't back surgery, I had a general, was out for an hour or so, recovery took 6 weeks, and am happy to say it didn't cause any DD related effects. YMMV.
