Hello,
I am in the early stages of DC. I have a cord in the web. It is not noticeable to the untrained eye. I went to a hand surgeon who was abreast on eary stage of DC. I took her diagnoses with me to the oncologist. He then radiated the web area. However b/c he is not abreast on the knuckle pads I was unable to convince him that I had a few knuckle pads.
Next plan of action:
Before I return to Florida for round 2 of RT on the hands I will go back to the hand surgeon and have her note the knuckle pads. This way I will be able to convince the oncologist to radiate this area.

Hi, I have been noticing a tightening in that same region and have a white area that seems to be a cord forming there (not confirmed yet). The Dupuytren's has been confirmed, but that was a few months back before the "spread" all over my palm. I live in Florida--where are you being treated in FL? I don't have insurance yet, but I have applied for SSI. That may take another year or so to get approval, but since I have not been able to work for over 2 years, should eventually succeed (at least I hope). Once approved, I hope that it will not be too late for treatment--definitely cannot afford to pay out of pocket in the meantime. But hope to have things lined up so I can get treatment right away once I have Medicare coverage. Does anyone know if the RT is covered under Medicare?

Maybe. The problem is you do not know until after the procedure. Some people have been successful, while others haven't. Don't count on it.

Once you are awarded SSI, there is a 24 month waiting period before you have Medicare. Will you be getting insurance on the insurance exchange for your state?

For Minamom and other self-pay patients Austin Cancer Centers, Dr. Paiman Ghafoori will treat you for $4,000. That is what the charge is regardless of how much area is treated and/or extremities. He is conservative in what or how much he treats. Protocol is two treatments at 3 x 5Gy's, spaced at an 8 week interval. (Not open to 12 week protocol.) Whether or not they would place you on a payment schedule until the $4,000 is covered I do not know. Did not ask that question, but suspect they would. He has treated several DD patients, how many I do not know.
Most self-pay costs are higher. It is a doable alternative for those to explore if you do not want to wait on Medicare, etc., but do not want to lose the window of greater success of treating DD with RT in early stage.

I mentioned the possibility of a cord in the thumb web to one doctor and he dismissed it. The next doctor performed NA on it without mentioning it before hand. I got very nice release but it started contracting again with six months. Wasn't splinting there, though.
