Re: Infection post-NA
BRIANB: was this doc a hand surgeon ? Anyway from what you have stated you are lucky to just have an infection...could have severed a nerve or worse .... poking around in ones finger .. just to see what happens ..is not good..
As I have staed for years .. { you only get ten fingers ...and you are not going to grow a new one } if something goes wrong.
Yes he is an experienced hand surgeon, been in practice at least 15 years, and he was not just 'poking around', he was performing an in-office NA. I didn't mean to imply anything other than that. I am sure he has performed this procedure many many times. I think maybe they should have used betadine, like someone else posted.....I am now on Sulfamethoxazole/TMP, and can see/feel improvement already.

Re: Infection post-NA
My doctor was adamant that to avoid infection I had to keep my hands out any kind of standing water for a week or 10 days, I can't remember which. Showers were fine but no dish washing or anything like that. I was also advised to keep antibiotic ointment and bandaids on the punctures for at least 3 days. I'm surprised your doctor wasn't more thorough in his after care instruction. Hope you're better by now and that the NA was successful.

Re: Infection post-NA
"no dish washing or anything like that". Dish washing would really provoke an infection!

Re: Infection post-NA
Thanks for all the info....the infection is still present, still draining, the doc has added Rifampin to the Bactrim, and I am going to see him at the surgery center this morning......his nurse said he wants to see me to evaluate if surgery is needed.....
