Re: New here RT on Monday

Jolene,
I know for a fact Prof. Seegenschmiedt treated a lady, I met her in his waiting room, for a 3rd time. I did ask him the specific question if a 3rd time would be ok should nodules appear again, he said "yes". He would then only treat the nodules, not the entire original area of RT.
Callie is right, we should all report our RT outcome here on this site. Seems it works for some, not for others.

Good Luck!

Hello Christi,

Wow 'THANK YOU' for this information.
Do you know how long he waits after round 2 before he will radiate a 3rd time?

Re: New here RT on Monday

Jolene, my Dr prefers to wait until 1 year after RT was finished to retreat unless progression seems very aggressive. Other Drs surely have different parameters. I'm 6 months out & have a very dry, flaky large triangle in both palms from the RT but it doesn't bother me. What is annoying is that since the RT my hands are extremely stiff every morning - but I suppose that could be from the DD or the onset of arthritis.

A database would be a good idea although it would need monitoring and updating. I think RT helped me somewhat but only time will tell to what extent. Initially I had reduction of nodules, but tenderness & stiffness still comes & goes, although the nodules on my RH have not grown, and possibly are getting smaller (so hard to be sure). There is a nodule on my LH in the radiated area that was very sore recently for about a month, & it has grown a little, but now everything seems quiet again. I may have cords under the surface but I can't feel them.

All that said, when I pass the 1 year mark, when things become active again (and you know they will), I'd still spring for a 3rd round of RT.

Re: New here RT on Monday

Jolene, there was not a lot of waiting in between. She had RT done here in the States. The area of RT was not large enough, so new nodules were popping up outside the radiated area. I met her at my first round of RT and then three month later again at Prof. Seegenschmiedt's waiting room. She told me that her nodules were still active and she was there for another round of RT. Great precaution was taken to just radiate the actual nodule.

Give it some time, but if your nodules grow and you have all the classic symptoms, talk to your Dr. and take it from there.

Also be very careful with your hands. I had RT done 2 years ago, I am still good. I wear cycling gloves when I garden, etc. I really protect my hands. I will not open any jars anymore, or do anything were my hands could get hurt.

Also had my feet done, will be one year in December. They are somewhat holding up. I can walk, Thank God, but it's nothing like it used to be, but I am not complaining. I am good. At first after RT , for about 6 month after, my feet hurt to the point were I could barely walk anymore. Prof. S warned me that this could be happening, so I did not freak out, just looked at it as the healing process. Gradually they got better and one fine day I could walk again. So all takes time. Shoes are the key. Find a good pair that is right for you.

Really pleased to see you have had some progress Christl.... I know you were a little worried after RT but being patient and looking after your feet have stood you in good stead......I hope they continue to improve......my feet are still loosening up 18 months after Rt.....they generally feel much better than b 4 Rt.....but there is still slow progression of the disease.....

Hello Gary, nice to see you on the board. How are you? Sorry to hear you have some progression. I read you might be going back to Germany, are you in touch with Prof. Seegenschmiedt already? Did you get new nodules or what's happening? I wish you all the best.

Hi Christl,

As you may remember I keep a monthly diary of my hands and feet.... This includes photos, nodules and cord size and any general notes that may be useful for future reference......i get my wife to palpate the feet and she has become quite an expert....The general feeling in my feet has improved a great deal in recent months....far less tense and angry than they were for the first year after RT....however .....the largest nodule that was 30mm x 20mm prior to Rt has developed 2 new smaller nodules either side of it.....6 months after RT the original nodule had decreased in size by about half......today the overall mass of the 3 nodules is still slightly smaller than at the start of RT. So I am keeping a close watch to see what happens...to be honest ....they are not bothering me a great deal and wait and see could be the best option

That said....I am happy to go back to Hamburg for another round of RT as it is possible on just the nodules....you may remember that I also have early stage DD....which I expect to get zapped in the future.....I have taken your advice to baby the hands and thus far they have progressed very little....

I will send my findings to Prof. S. Before Xmas and be guided by his expertise as what to do next.

Wishing you all the best

Gazza
