Recent surgery

Hello again,
Well I'm 5 days post surgery for Dupuytrens diathesis. They removed 4 nodules - 2 big ones from the PIP joint of my little finger and 2 from the palm (my right hand, worse luck). The anaesthetist used nerve blocks, no sedation, though I was scheduled for a general, which was...interesting :)
I'm in a large cast which I was surprised to see encases the whole of my hand, even the fingertips, and have a ridiculously enormous purple padded foam sling from shoulder to finger ends. Incapacitated to say the least (I live alone) but from day 1 have managed to bath/feed myself etc. Stubborn lol.
Couple of questions - I'm in quite a lot (a lot a lot, tbh) of pain. Getting dressed actually makes me cry out, and my hand thumps like in a cartoon lol, especially if I don't keep it elevated. Normal?
And I have painful Garrods pads and rapidly developing, tender, nodules on the Pip joints of my left hand - obviously I'm having to use this hand for a while and it's really uncomfortable. Any tips for easing the pain in this working hand?
I'm seeing a physio tomorrow for cast removal and re-dressing, then the surgeon is removing my stitches next Friday. Can't say I'm looking forward to seeing under the plaster - I had a quick look over the curtain during the surgery (brave/stupid) and it was NOT a pretty sight...God knows what it'll look like tomorrow!
Any moral support/pain management (apart from ibuprofen, codeine, and a nightcap!) greatly appreciated xx
