Spotted Dupuytren's

Having been diagnosed for about a year now, I find myself frequently checking out other peoples hands. Today at the gym a spotted a guy who looks like he had Dupuytren's. I told him about the disease and showed him my hands. He seems like he has a pretty clear case of it with the skin wrinkled up in the palms behind the 3rd finger on both hands, but little if any contracture. He's 72 and never heard of the disease and didn't seem particularly concerned. I wonder how many people are walking around with Dupuytren's and don't even know. My dad was another case like this.

Re: Spotted Dupuytren's

dpjcrfsh; Being 72 with only minor distortion and no obvious lumps or contracture the guy you spotted in the gym should not be concerned in the slightest. Its a non life threatening disease and, if it is DD, it is late onset and very unlikely to cause him any difficulties.

Re: Spotted Dupuytren's

Yes I agree with Seph. The majority who have it don't get a contracture, maybe never heard of the disease, and put a few lumps down to calluses , ganglions, or something else. My daughter owns a Salon where reflexology is practiced and quite a few people are noticed with lumps on hands and feet. She only gives out cards pointing the the BDS website if she recognises quite clear more advanced cases with lumps and pits and the client expresses some mild concern if it's mentioned in conversation.
