Re: Started RT in Colorado on Monday - Hoping for the Best

This is an older thread but I have an appointment with Dr. Kavanagh in a week to talk about the nodules in the palm of my hand. I've had a few more small ones pop up on the same hand in a fairly short time. I don't have any contracture yet so from what I've read, this might be the time to talk about RT.

Hi chewie. Glad to see your posting. I haven't met with Dr K yet as I'm still on the fence about RT. My hand Doc (surgeon) is absolutely against it and is all about serial shots of cortisone. Would love to hear the outcome of your appt. I also have discomfort, knots and cords and want to be proactive before it progresses.

I met with Dr Kavanagh and will have 5 appointments beginning on December 12th. I really like Dr K, adore his staff. I'm not nervous yet, just hope it will slow the progression, or at least willing to give it a try and happy to be able to do something! I have a Christmas party to go to that afternoon. To those who have had this done, think I'll have any reason not to go because I'd really like to have some Christmass cheer :-) More later.

Re: Started RT in Colorado on Monday - Hoping for the Best

Hi friends...I just finished 2 rounds of RT in Colorado. I met with Dr. Kavanagh who kindly referred me to a Radiation Oncologist in my area. Dr. King in Grand Junction treated me. My experience with Dr. King was excellent and I am so grateful to him and his staff. It is too early to say if I see results, but I am glad I followed through with the treatment. Even if my disease stays exactly as it is (nodules, cords, and slight contracture) and doesn't progress or worsen, I will be pleased. I wish you the best of luck with your treatments in Denver, chewie. And I think you will be fine attending your holiday party :) ~susie

Hi Susie, I had two RT treatments and have three more next week. You were right of course, no problem making it to the party :-) I asked one of the Radiation Tech's if she had seen this and she said just one and it was a lady who came in before me. I feel the same as you, if this stays like it is (nodules, cords but no real contracture yet), I'll be happy-ish. lol I think Dr K might have felt more was going on although he didn't say anything, but I'm really glad to have found him through this forum. It's a good feeling having a doc who knows about this crazy disease and I'm happy you have someone on the Western Slope!
