Survey to educate hand surgeons about the benefits of radiation therapy

On a Facebook page for Dupuytren's, Dr. Gary Pess, a leading U.S. hand surgeon and prominent Dupuytren's Disease advocate, has volunteered to gather information about the results of RT and present that in some fashion to other hand surgeons. This is an effort to get the ball rolling to educate hand surgeons about the effect of RT on DD and LD. One obvious potential outcome for patients might be that one day, hopefully in the not too distant future, a new DD or LD patient can go to their doctor to inquire about that tender nodule in their palm or foot and be told their treatment options include RT. Then that hand surgeon would work with a local radiation oncologist to get this done. The hand surgeon would use his expertise to map out the treatment area to be irradiated. And a partnership of some sort is forged where there was none before.

Dr. Pess asked for this information in a BRIEF format because this is a project he is taking on himself and his resources are limited.

Here is how the survey questionnaire was presented by Dr. Pess.

For those who have had RT, please answer these 4 questions BRIEFLY:
1) What was you hand like prior to RT? ie: Nodules (? #), Cords, Mild contracture, severe contracture
2) What was the result? ie: nodules disappeared, cords disappeared, contracture went away and finger is now straight, disease progressed, disease extended to to other areas of the hand
3) How long has it been since you had RT?
4) Any side effects or problems with RT?

If you would like for your RT results to be included in this survey, please add your brief response below in the 1-4 format and I can copy and give to Dr. Pess. If you prefer to give your response information direct to Dr. Pess you can go to the Dupuytren's Facebook group page and add it yourself. This is a closed Facebook group and you would have to be added as a member first. https://www.facebook.com/groups/51708658721/ This is an active group and you would have to search for the post by Gary Pess dated February 24, 2015 and add your response there.
