Nondisplaced navicular Bone Fracture
My son broke his wrist demonsstrating a nondisplaced fracture through the proximal waist of the navicular bone without significan displacement on 11/17/02. On 11/16/02 a short arm thumb spica cast was applied. On 12/19/02 repeat xrays showed excellent alignment and the short-arm-thumb spica cast was continued. On 1/16/03 xray showed a healing fracture of the carpal navicular wit no displacement and callus formation. On 3/3/03 he had sugery. I think it is called Herberts Screw Procedure. No bone graft was required. Question: How long will he be in follow up care??? He is a graduate student and we are trying to figure the impact this will have on his school work. To complicate things his insurance will be terminated when he graduates in May and if this problem still requires care he won't have insurance so we are trying to make a plan for him. thanks anyone for comments, advise. A worried mom
