Mowing the lawn

Hello,
I will like others input regarding mowing the lawn. I have read that vibration is not good for the hands. that this can bring the onset on or cause the disease to become active.

Please has anyone had a negative experience like this regarding mowing the lawn? Do I need to have a lawn care service to this from now on?

I have always had a lawn care service however I haev been thinking about doing it myself mainly for the exercise.
Feed back please

I completed round 2 of RT in Dec 2013. I certainly do not want to do anything to hinder the progression of the treatment
thank you
Jolene

Re: Mowing the lawn

Jolene, I think you are fine to mow your lawn if you wish. You might want to wear gloves if you need any protection but I don't believe mower vibration will cause any issues. I had RT four years ago in both hands and still have issues with some things but I do a lot of yard work and I feel like it is actually good for my hands.

I've read that the trauma/vibration link is mostly anecdotal.

There isn't enough vibration in my gas-powered mower to notice.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Mowing the lawn

I love mowing the lawn. We have a huge yard and it takes a couple of hours to mow it. I have severe DC and my right hand doesn't close or fully open. I cannot even grip the pull cord to yank to start the mower. My left hand has the pinky and ring and middle fingers pulling down quite severely. So I basically have index fingers and thumbs that are working at the moment. I just mowed the lawn today.

Last summer I did wear weight lifting gloves that had gel in the palms. That was a comfort thing because it did make my hands feel better while holding the mower handle. This year my fingers are too curled to wear gloves.

While I do what I can to take care of my hands, I can't quit living life and doing the things I enjoy.
