surgery was OK, just do the PT!

Five weeks since my partial fasciectomy and I have been quite pleased. I have been diligent at doing the stretches, massages, squeezing putty balls, etc. - even more often than PT prescribed.

My hand is flat. Getting flexible takes less time each morning. Scar tissue is still firm, but is improving.

Do your research on the hand surgeon (experience counts), but don't fear the knife. I have had a great experience.

I almost look forward to having the growing Dups on my other hand done a few years as it progresses.

Do the physical therapy!! A lot!

I agree, the PT is very important. For me it was almost a habit that developed. I was always flexing my hand. Along with the PT, hand moisture/lotion is essential 24/7. For me the best thing that worked was making a fist and wrapping it with the self adhering 1 1/2 elastic wrap (like Ace bandage). I would do that for about 10 minutes, 3 or 4 times a day. Then stretch the hand as soon as taking off the wrap. It wasn't long that I could make a tight fist. Six years following surgery, my hand remains as good (zero contracture, no scar tissue) as it was prior to noticing the Dupuytren's.
