Re: Thickening of skin after RT,
Larry:
mrl: Has anyone had the side effect of thickening of the skin after RT? I know this is supposed to be a possible side effect of radiation treatment in general, but I wonder if anyone had it occur for RT for DD. I'm hoping it's just a side effect, and not progession of the disease itself. Thanks. - Mark
Sounds pretty strange to me, as "FIBROSIS" usually occurs 2 - 5 years after radiotherapy at dose levels which are beyond 50Gy; this side effect has never been described in the "modern literature" on RT of Dupuytren!
I wonder who has treated you and with which technique; depending on the RT technique you may have received a higher skin dose than usually necessary to address the palmar fascia level. So try to get more DETAILS about your RT !
Best regards, Larry
I read about fibrosis, and that isn't what I have, as the outer skin looks fine. I think I had some slight thinning of the skin, which caused the DD tissue to feel closer to the touch. I had read that someone else had the sensation with their cords, after RT. In any event, I think I'm finally seeing some reduction of the hand stiffness, which was my main problem.

Re: Thickening of skin after RT,
aryan: I will try and find out from my doctor what the dosage of my RT was. I think it was the same as Prof S in Germany and each hand was 'under' for about 3 and a half mins each day for 5 days and then again after a break of 8 weeks. Does that sound the norm?
The aching and stiffness continues and also new nodules are growing really quickly. I have been doing stretching exersizes which maybe is wrong for me - who knows?! I have hopes that massage therapy will help alleviate the aches and pains and also slow down the DD.
Aryan, my guess is that you got the correct dose. I say this because you went to an experienced RT doctor for your treatment. Didn't you go to Dr. Shaffer in the UK? I suggest that you get him to clarify further his opinions on the outcome of your treatment.
