Re: Cost of RT
I have just completed the first set of 5 RT treatments in Brisbane Australia. The total cost so far has been around $2,000 of which 50% has been covered by the National Health System. The second set of treatments should cost about $500. I am anticipating my total out of pocket expenses will be in the order of $1,500 Australian dollars.

Re: Cost of RT
That seems to be a very reasonable price; are these people knowlegable about all aspects of this disease, are they experienced in physical examination, and do the have appropriate judgement whether radiation is good or not ... ?

Re: Cost of RT
I was treated in Germany with a linear accelerator using the 6 Megavolt electrons plus a "bolus" material of about 1 cm thickness.
I had to pay 450 EURO for one radiotherapy series consisting of five radiotherapy sessions; since I had to be treated on both feet and underwent two radiotherapy series, I had to pay 1.800 EURO which included all fees (techical fee, physicians fee and all material). My private health insuarance covered all costs.

Re: Cost of RT
I have heard of medical insurance companies paying for medical treatment overseas and this includes the travel costs. They save money so it is in their interest to do so. It would be worth checking out as Larry mentioned a company covering the direct medical costs for the XRT in Germany and others might cover the airfare as well.

Re: Cost of RT
Hi all, I went to Germany in September and had RT on both feet my costs were as follows in dollars: $1384.30 flight, $314.33 Mein hotel, $1374.67 RT (Euro 495.60/foot). Total $3073.40 My flight in Dec is only to be $945, so next time will be even more cost efficient.
Mein Hotel if you are interested is a clean, basic hotel. The airplane noise is excessive if you have your window open (no air conditioning)--but with it closed I couldn't hear the planes much at all. However, the noise in the hallway was pretty loud, so if you stay there--take ear plugs.
The public transportation system is amazing and after you get the hang of it (there are maps at each stop, you just need to remember the name of your stop) even if you go the wrong way you can get off and get on one going the other way within a few minutes... get the Hamburg card it is really worth it. All the buses etc are covered.

Re: Cost of RT
Interesting. I am waiting to see how my costs will be covered by my insurance. If too high, I will forego RT and wait to see if the Dupuytren's gets worse. If it does, I will just wait until 40 degrees contracture and then have a fasciectomy.
This has been mentioned somewhere, but can a person have surgery after getting RT?

Re: Cost of RT
Is there anyone out there who has gone to Dr. S in Hamburg for the initial evaluation and treatment because he is the "authority," then finished the second round here in the U.S.?
My insurance will cover the RT, but I'd like to see the best of the best for my initial evaluation.

Re: Cost of RT
UK update: Poole Hospital in Dorset sent me a mail in December 2011 quoting £1,500 for one hand and £2,500 for two hands on a private treatment basis (no National Health patients accepted).
The radiotherapy dept direct line is 01202 448192
Hope this helps build a picture
