Re: Cost of RT

That sounds very expensive for RT.

Is there anyone out there who has gone to Dr. S in Hamburg for the initial evaluation and treatment because he is the "authority," then finished the second round here in the U.S.?

My insurance will cover the RT, but I'd like to see the best of the best for my initial evaluation.

I have already written, that I was treated in Germany by Prof. Seegenschmiedt with a linear accelerator using the 6 Megavolt electrons plus a "bolus" material of about 1 cm thickness. I paid 450 EURO for one radiotherapy series consisting of five radiotherapy sessions; since I had to be treated on both feet and underwent two radiotherapy series, I had to pay 1.800 EURO which included all fees (techical fee, physicians fee and all material). My private health insuarance covered all costs.

That's lower than in the UK and much loer than in the USA ! Hamburg seems to be an enjoyable city !

I am flying to Hamburg 3/10 for the evaluation/consultation for DD and LD with Prof S. for RT. He said I was a candidate based on multiple photos and description of my case.
If after the evaluation, he still agrees to treat me, I will ask him about getting the 2nd week of RT in the US. I had originally wanted to go to Dr Weiss in Richmond, VA but Insurance company denied coverage. So I am hoping this is an option for me as well.
Hopefully I will remember to find this thread and answer your question. Although, since each case is different, it might not be a one size fits all answer.
Hang in there and keep asking questions !

Hi Larry, thanks for your input, but that's not really what I meant to imply.

What I am wondering is if I go to Dr. S and get the initial evaluation/treatment so that I start off with the very best.....THEN......for my second series of 5 day treatments 12 weeks later, go to a radiologist in the U.S. to avoid the travel. Not the cost, just the travel.

My insurance will cover the U.S. treatment, that's not the problem. My issue is getting the time off of work to go to Germany twice. I am self employed and work in a very customer service driven industry with clients who call 20 hours per day....lol. It would be hard to be away for an entire week twice in 3 months. I haven't taken a vacation since 2008 and that was a single week.

My health is the most important thing, but I can't pay insurance premiums or any other medical costs if I lose my clients.
