After N/A

I had N/A done by Dr. Eaton about two months ago and the strangest thing has happen. At least I think so. My right hand had always been my "good hand" as it never hurt, laid flat, and had only the slightest crease in the palm of my hand. Well, all that has changed in the past month. The DC is coming on so fast my hand/fingers are hurting and there is a cord forming in my ring finger as I type this! I hate to sound like I am whining but I am this stuff is just the pits! It is as if the work done on my left hand triggered the other to go off I know that sounds nuts but I think it's true.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Thanks for all the info this site gives to us

Re: After N/A

Brandy,

Immediately after have full Open Surgery my other hand began to form lumps as well. It certainly seemed to me that there was a connection. It was eventually treated with NA. On the other hand (so to speak) Dups is unpredictable and bilateral disease is common. It could have been coincidental for both of us.

But....trauma *is* the things that triggered this disease for many of us. Believe me, the difference in trauma between NA and OS is night and day. Perhaps in a few years when Collegenase is available it will produce even less trauma than NA. For now NA is the best we have.

I recommend injecting the new hand with cortisone, or perhaps radiation treatment if you really want to get aggressive. If you are a young woman you need to get aggressive and statistically you will have the hardest time with this disease. Sorry to suggest that but that is what the numbers say at least. as might as well know.

Just Diagnosed Yesterday with Dupuytren. Any Advice Please?

I am new to this site, today.
I was diagnosed yesterday with dupytren.
I was referred to a Hand specialist Group in Pennsylvania. I am waiting for them to call me back for an appointment.

I decided to do some research on the web..about 1 hour ago..I came across this forum.

According to what I read on the web and what my primary physican has indicated, I will probably get a cortizone shot as a 1st line of treatment when I see the hand specialist.

I absolutely do not want general surgery.

I am fairly distressed about the incurable condition and probability of spreading.
However, If I have to have something done. I would prefer, I think to have the NA procedure.

Any advice on where and how I should proceed from here?

Thank You!

Also, I cannot get a Code to work.

Re: After N/A

No need to panic, OctoberOrange. It is a strange feeling when you have a disease that can't be cured but things happen. Fortunately Dupuytren usually is a disease that takes yyears to become uncomfortable and you have time to consider your options. And there are some: you might have a look at our web site www.dupuytren-online.info (you can also click on the link/logo at the top of this page).

The Stats Don't Lie

Unless your hand surgeon is one of a very few with an open mind about NA he will attempt to talk you out of it. Just tell him that Dr. Charles Eaton has done over 2,000 procedure with less nerve damage that what we see with OS. Recurrence is higher statistically, yes. So, you try NA first and *then* OS if necessary in your case. Refer the surgeon to http://www.handcenter.org/newfile16.htm and tell him to
have a nice day. Oh, you can always offer to show him the NA results if he would like.

If he is like 90% of his fellows you'll get the feeling you are talking to a brick wall. You 'kinda are.

Re: After N/A

Octoober,

I'm in PA, too and have DD. I've had really good results with NA and Dr. Pess is not that far away (in NJ). I live outside Philly but my brother lives in Erie and drove across to have Dr. Pess do NA on him as well.

Who and where are your hand doctors? Maybe I can add a little light.
