Please help me...Does Dupuytrans ever hurt? I seem to have every symtom but I have a pain in my knuckle of my ring finger and also in the palm near base of finger..Ive read there is no pain involved. Im going to Dr on 11, I know I don't have arthritis..My thumb and pointer fingers are fine.. thanks for your help. cathln

Thanks Deelyc and Sandie, Yes, I did go to the Dr. today and I do have DD. At first the Dr was going yo give me a cortisone shot in the bottom of my ring finger, I can't have any steroids at all because of a lung desease I have..He then said, well you do have some contractures and thickening in your palm..I won't do anything for it though..I only work on fingers that have fully contracted. I could go to a therapist to squeeze a bll and pick up buttons, I can't afford $25 2 times a week. Im right back where I started and not very happy with my primary sending me to a Dr like that. And yes, when he squeezed my fingers it did hurt. I also have nodules on the back of my knuckles that he just had to squeeze too. Im back to square one.. Any Ideas would be appreciated.. Cathln

I am new to this room and recently diagnosed with Dupuytrens. I am so glad to read the question "pain with Dupuytrens". That is what sent me to the doctor's office in the first place: lumps and pain. When it got around to the "pain part" of the discussion my doctor said that he didn't know why I was having any pain in my hands.

Let me tell you something. my palms are red hot on fire feeling most all the time. I can not take the pain if there is something that touches these lumps, bumps, nodes...they are so tender even when nothing is touching them...only air. I just about can't stand it.

I am looking at seeing a hand specialist in another town because, the doctor I have right now had put down in my file that he thought I had Trigger Finger instead of what he said in his office which was Dupuytrens, I found this out a month after I was in his office. This disease has in 2 months time gave me seven lumps, plus now it has started to move up into my fingers...to me that isn't a slow process. Even my fingers are starting to curl, I have to do something to help this problem before it is to late.

Have any of you had surgery to release or remove this disease?

Hi Sherri, My husband did not have pain, but it sounds like the lumps in your palms may be pressing against some nerves. The heat could be your body trying to fight the "intruding" lumps. Where are you located? There are only a few doctors around the world that understand Dupuytren's, and are dedicating themselves to helping those who suffer from it.

I would get in to see one of the Dupuytren's doctors ASAP. There are things that are believed, at this point, to cause the Dupuytren's to accelerate. It hasn't been proven, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Those are: alcohol, smoking, pounding the palms of the hands, such as using a hammer or drill at work, also the use of Glucosamine.

After Dr. Kline broke the cords, that were pulling my husband's fingers into the palm, he injected the lumps with a steroid. Within days, the lumps were gone. My husband is very happy with the results.

Looking through this forum and on the internet you will find some excellent doctors who can treat Dupuytren's with Needle Aponevrotomy (NA) instead of surgery. As for us, our insurance would have paid for surgery, but wouldn't pay for NA. We chose to pay out of our pocket, rather than put my husband through the surgery and rehabilitation.
