Newbie! Need help for my husband
My poor husband has Dupuytren's in both hands and we are looking for a specialist in this disease in the southeast United States. Does anyone have any recommendations?
We did go to a local orthopedic doctor who operated on one hand about 10 years ago but the condition returned within a few weeks (knot was removed).
Any help will be appreciated!

Re: Newbie! Need help for my husband
Find a hand surgeon (with experience in Dupuytren's surgery). Or, check out the alternatives to surgery. Do not go to just any surgeon who thinks he might be able to do the surgery. How much has your husband's hand contracted?
Why was there surgery for a "knot"? Were there fingers that contracted?

Re: Newbie! Need help for my husband
About 10 years ago, my husband had a hard knot in the middle of his palm. He went to the doctor who said let's cut it out. So he did...then it came back within a month or so. Then more knots came up near it. Now there are many hard knots in both palms and "rope" like things leading from them up to his fingers particulary the ring and pinky fingers. On one hand, the ring finger has contracted a little bit. It hurst when he stretches out his palms. And now they ache all the time. I massage them as much as I can but it's obvious it's getting worse.
I'd rather find a doctor who doesn't want to do surgery first. Our problem is finding a reputable specialist. We are 3 hours from Jacksonville, FL and 4 hours from Atlanta, GA and 1 hour from Tallahassee, FL. We've looked into the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, GA because they are supposed to be the best but the one doctor there doesn't seem to get good reviews.
I'm just trying to find a really good specialist.

Re: Newbie! Need help for my husband
Your (husband's) experience is important. He was possibly mistreated by the surgeon. You need to go to a hand specialist, which I think you now realize. Surgery might be the best solution, or it might not at this stage. Make the phone call below and set up an appointment. Dr. Eaton would be the first choice. They would want as much information as you can give them, including pictures.
Drs. Charles Eaton (CHS) and Paul Zidel (CHS) The Hand Center 1002 Old Dixie Hwy., Suite 105 Jupiter, FL (Florida) 33458 Phone: (561) 746-7686

Stuart D. Patterson, MD, FRCSC Central Florida Orthopaedic Surgery Associates, PL Suite 112, 2000 East Edgewood Drive Lakeland, FL (Florida) 33803-3639 Phone: (863) 666-3436 www.cfosa.com

Re: Newbie! Need help for my husband
If there is little or no contraction and depending on age and other general health issues, radiotherapy could be considered. There are several people from the USA who use this forum who have had RT in the USA.
