Cords
Has anyone ever had a NA done after having radiation? If so did you have good result? Would like to have a cord in the palm of my right hand but worry that if i do something like this my DD will come out of remission.

Re: Cords
Yes, I had RT done in July 2009 and NA done 2 years later in July 2011 to release mild contracture in my palm mostly from my thumb across to my little/pinky finger. Several cords were released in my palm but one up into my little finger. It has not caused a major flare up of DD. I started wearing a night splint in Sept. 2011 and that has helped keep the cords stretched out.
I will not hesitate to have NA done again before contracture gets more than 15-20 degrees. It is about a 20 minute procedure, then bandaging, keeping it elevated for 24-48 hours, then removing bandages. I had to keep my hand out of water (showers not tub baths, no swimming, no washing dishes) and keep Bacitracin/triple antibiotic ointment on the needle punctures for 2 weeks. No pain. No swelling. No problem at all. The cords still cause tightness, but the night splint really helps.
Any other questions?

Re: Cords
No you have explained it very well. Thank you. I'm not sure but i think i posted this before awhile back. Its just that my hands are good except when i do something that i have to use all my strength to do it or something i don't normally do and then my hands ache and feel like i made a mistake and maybe shouldn't of not did it. But then couple of weeks later and resting my hands they slowly get better. I'm always worried that its going to come out of remission. My hands are tight all the time. Right one is worst but my right hand had ahead start with DD. What type of splint do you use?

Re: Cords
Cindy, I'm going to post pictures of my splint. Got to get my grandson over to help me. Thought I'd have it done 3-4 months ago.

My understanding is that hand surgeons have acknowledged that RT is a viable way of treating early stage dups......but that is only from word of mouth......I know nothing else....

Re: Cords
Cindy,
I have the same problem with over using my hand. I cleaned the gutters on Saturday and my hand still aches. I only did half the house, my husband did the other half but it was still too much. I think it was the grasping of leaves and holding the ladder that did it. Today it still feels tight and it aches. Cord is more visable.

Re: Cords
mine is definitely the same. having just had two weeks off work to see if it helped, (as I am a typist), it did... then when i do too much, or grasp things, it really bothers my palms..just now I was filing my nails and because my fingers were folded in as it were, that hurts too
how long have you had your cords and has it changed much of late?
